Chianti, Colli Senesi, Salchetto, Toscana 2008
This 46-hectare estate is located in the heart of Montepulciano, with a spectacular view of the medieval hill town. Salcheto's Chianti is a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Mammolo vines which are pollinated by Salchetto's very own honey bees. Richly fruited with savory notes of herbs and black pepper this will work well with duck and game dishes.

Barbera d'Asti, La Tranquilla, Carussin, Piemonte 2006
It is rich and full for Barbera with a lovely dense yet vibrant, ruby colour. The nose is fruity and opulent with notes of vanilla, cherry and prune. Try this lightly chilled with veal ravioli.

Aglianico ‘Vignantica’, Selvanova, Campania 2007   
This emerging estate is located in Caserta with south facing vineyards on the slopes of the Taburno massif. Selvanova's Aglianico is medium-to-full bodied, fresh, spicy, with notes of plums, blackcherries, sweet tobacco and a luscious mouthfeel displaying great finesse and complexity.

Nebbiolo, Terazze Retiche, Sandro Fay, Lombardia 2007
Valtellina is the largest area of terraced vineyards in Italy at altitudes of up to 900m. The native grape here is Nebbiolo, locally called Chiavennasca. It produces a wine akin to Barolo but with softer tannins, juicier fruit and an easy accessibility. Winemaker Marco Fay loves to drink this with the local antipasto of cheese and salumi.

Pinot Nero, Riserva 'Montigl', Cantina Terlano, Alto Adige 2006
The Pinot Nero vineyards of Terlano are based on rich volcanic soils, giving their wines distinctive minerality and concentration, and extraordinary longevity. With bright, fresh red berry fruit and subtle tannins. Try with a meaty seafood dish such as monkfish or a classic Milanese.
